Lions killed significantly more cattle in nonfortified enclosures than in the veldt, although this was influenced by surplus killing. Our results suggest that cattle predation by lions is driven by availability and cavalier husbandry practices, coupled with morphological features associated with facilitating easy husbandry. Cattle no longer exhibit the key features that enabled their ancestors to coexist with large predators and are now reliant upon humans to perform critical antipredator activities. Hence, the responsibility for mitigating human–wildlife conflict involving lions and cattle lies with people in either breeding traits that minimise predation or adequately protecting their cattle.]]> Thu 21 Oct 2021 12:52:41 AEDT ]]> The Politics of Water Rights: Scarcity, Sovereignty and Security https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:42681 Thu 01 Sep 2022 08:45:15 AEST ]]> Intergroup bias https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:1502 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:30:53 AEDT ]]> Thucydides' war: accounting for the faces of conflict https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:2232 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:29:04 AEDT ]]> Responding to terrorism in the era of the governance state https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:15572 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:20:02 AEDT ]]> Religious and political violence: globalising syncretism and the governance state https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:10581 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:14:00 AEDT ]]> Islam and ethics https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:9832 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:09:33 AEDT ]]> Conflict and inhibition in the cued-Go/NoGo task https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:17416 Sat 24 Mar 2018 08:01:39 AEDT ]]> The impact of cognitive conflict on team performance https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:6566 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:47:06 AEDT ]]> Understanding the influence of distractors on workload capacity https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:26303 workload capacity of information processing of multidimensional perceptual stimuli. Capacity, which describes how the processing rate of the system changes as the number of stimulus dimensions or attributes is increased, is an important property of information processing systems. Inferences based on one measure of capacity, the capacity coefficient (Townsend and Nozawa, 1995), are typically computed by comparing the processing of single targets, which provide a measure of the baseline processing time of the system, to the processing of a double target. The single targets are typically assumed to be presented alone without any irrelevant distracting information. In this paper, we derive new capacity predictions for situations when distractor information is present. This extension reveals that, with distractors, the value of the capacity coefficient no longer provides unique diagnostic information about the underlying processing system. We further show how to rectify this situation by contrasting distractors of different discriminability.]]> Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:40:40 AEDT ]]> Differences in national identity, violence and conflict in international sport tournaments: hic sunt leones! https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:30723 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:32:37 AEDT ]]> On writing about Australian military history after the Second World War: the need for integration https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:3589 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:22:08 AEDT ]]> Ethno-religious conflicts: rise or decline?: recent developments in Southeast Asia https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:3595 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:22:08 AEDT ]]> Hungry times: food as a source of conflict between Aboriginal people and British colonists in New South Wales 1804-1846 https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:23357 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:16:31 AEDT ]]> Ethical transnational corporate activity at home and abroad: a proposal for reforming continuous disclosure obligations in Australia and the United States https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:25157 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:14:29 AEDT ]]> Surviving the storm: behavioural economics in the conflict environment https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:24512 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:13:13 AEDT ]]> Disconnection and decision-making: adult children explain their reasons for estranging from parents https://novaprd-lb.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:23849 Sat 24 Mar 2018 07:12:12 AEDT ]]> How do information processing systems deal with conflicting information?
